Driveway sealant on a windy day?
With all of the driveway and asphalt sealing going on this spring, be very cautious of who you have to do the job. This past Saturday, the parking lot where I live was sealed with a black asphalt sealer. The people here where I live in a small condo building were asked to move their cars the day before the sealant job. Everybody put their cars out to the street, then first thing Saturday morning the spraying began, it was a very windy day – which sure didn’t help. My car got hit with the overspray blowing in the wind, very tiny particles, invisible pin pricks of hot asphalt, they sure did a mess to some of my car’s panels and clear coat shine.
I contacted the management of the condo building; absolutely no response. I talked to the sealant company, one employee had a look at my car and felt the surface with the asphalt. “No, we didn’t do that! Your car is just dirty!” The usual denial, and this is after I had already cleaned the car twice.
So be very careful on who you hire, as wind-blown hot asphalt and overspray can make a mess of your car if parked nearby. I have had to purchase a ($200) special tar remover and rubbing compound to get rid of this mess to bring back some shine to my car.
