Gatineau Announces a $245,000 Investment for Green Projects
On September 22, the City of Gatineau announced a funding opportunity, aimed at supporting projects in the Gatineau region that improve or protect the environment. Assistance from the Green Fund will be available for non-profit and public organizations to support study and development projects, projects related to an event or activity focused on the environment, and awareness raising projects.
This year, a total of $245,000 is available as grants. For projects costing up to $5,000, 75% of the amount can be awarded. For projects over $5,000, up to 50% of the total costs can be awarded. For projects over $50,000, a maximum of $15,000 could be awarded for an event and a maximum of $25,000 for other projects.
The projects must align with the organization's mission, must take place in Gatineau and be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, race, sexual orientation, or religion. Other criteria for the projects are available on the City of Gatineau’s website. “Since the creation of the Green Fund, the City has participated in the realization of hundreds of projects that have protected our environment, thanks to grants totalling $ 2.7 million. Gatineau residents show a great interest in climate action. Thanks to the efforts of the whole community, we are helping to fight, together, against climate change in our territory.” says Maude Marquis-Bissonnette, president of the Commission sur le développement du territoire, l'habitation et l'environnement, and mayoral candidate for Gatineau.
The Green Fund supports initiatives such as setting up a project “rallye-nature” in several parks and woods in Gatineau. This was organized by Geneviève Carrier from Enviro-Action and Diane Bourgault from Écolonature. The project consists of offering 12 environmental education workshops in the parks of the City of Gatineau.
The City invites organizations to submit their applications by November 1, 2021 at 11:59 p.m and to participate in the information session for organizations. To participate in the information session organizations must register via this email: firstname.lastname@example.org.
