Walk your bike!
As a user of mass transit, I have occasion to do walking - quite a lot of it. Part of my route takes me across the Chaudieres Bridge, with its barricaded and narrow sidewalks. Over the last two months, I have seen an increasing number of bicycles riding on the sidewalk - even though there are signs every 50 ft (and more are installed each week) indicating to dismount. The bicycle riders, when confronted with this fact, get angry or make crude signs in my direction. This morning, I was physically pushed out of the way – from behind! – by a person on a bicycle, so he could continue biking on the sidewalk, in plain view of a “WALK YOUR BIKE” sign. And a friend of mine was struck – twice – last week walking on the sidewalk on Elgin, with a hip injury.
When will bicycles stop choosing which laws to respect, and behave the way they expect everyone else to – by following the laws? Note: I now take photos of each of these bikers, in the event I am personally injured.
