Aylmer Circle of Friends:

An important scholarship fund for D’Arcy McGee High School

 

Aylmer’s Circle of Friends, a community group made up of members of the community and local businesses, donated a scholarship fund of $5,000 to D’Arcy McGee High School, to be distributed evenly to five students in high school level five. “When such a contribution is made to the educational community, it is the whole community that benefits,” stated James Shea, West Quebec School Board President.

To qualify for the scholarship, students had to write a two-page paper on the subject of the elimination of violence against women and children in Canada and in the world. Valentina Canales Burke, Hannah Fraser Purdy, Jewelyann Ouimet, Beza Getachew and Grace Keon were each awarded a scholarship.

“This will definitely have a positive impact and we are extremely happy with this generous donation,” said George Singfield,  D’Arcy McGee Principal.

“This scholarship fund helps create awareness and encourages a serious conversation on the issue of violence against women and children,” noted Lillian Beaudoin, founder of the Aylmer Circle of Friends. “Our youth can and will make a difference.”

In the past, this community group had raised $10,000 to support L’Autre chez soi, a shelter for women victim of domestic violence.
