Rumours about SPCA
I am enraged (having heard rumours about the SPCA). I have always supported the SPCA, but yesterday one of the clients of my pet-sitting business was visited at her home here in Aylmer and, she said, harassed by an SPCA agent about pet licenses. She told the agent that she would register her pets online. (She had missed the deadline for registering.) She claims he became very rude and asked her for ID to give her a “48 hours to pay” or else she would be fined $300. She refused to give out her ID so this representative threatened to call the police. She continued to say no to showing her ID or paying the fee at her door. He then wrote out a ticket informing her that if she didn’t pay within 48 hours the fine would be $300.
During their conversation she mentioned to him about the news articles she’s read about SPCA bothering people in their homes -- and he answered that the police would deal with her. What gives this guy the right to threaten her with a police visit? Do we have to answer our door to every official, even the police? What privacy rights do we actually have? I need answers!
