Brown Bag Coffee Roasters, recognized as best in the region by Th3rdwave coffee awards
Aylmer-based company Brown Bag Coffee Roasters (BBCR) was named the best coffee roaster in the Ottawa-Gatineau region for 2020, during the third annual Th3rdwave Awards - presented virtually on February 11. Grateful for the recognition and the community’s continued support during what was a difficult year, BBCR’s Head of roasting and operations Chris Jonker said he was thrilled to even be considered for the prize – noting that winning it was a pleasant surprise. “We didn’t really expect it,” Jonker said. “We knew we put a lot of faith in our customers and the jury as well. It was a really nice thing to happen to us, especially in these times. It was a real boost that we needed.”
Considering the winners of the award from previous years, including Happy Goat Coffee in 2019, Jonker said the recognition places in BBCR in highly esteemed company locally and will hopefully help attract more customers going forward. “This just shows that what we’re doing is working,” Jonker said.
Intended to promote the country’s independent coffee shops and roasters, the Th3rdwave Awards is annual celebration established in 2017, and its winners are voted on by the public and it’s nominees are chosen by a jury of photographers, baristas, and coffee bloggers.
