----- China-bashing?
I am disappointed with all the China-bashing from the G7 and soon-to-be NATO meetings. In what way will another cold war, with its arms brinksmanship and all its proxy min-wars and famines, how will this help the world recover from the pandemic lockdown? There's a new reality, yes, with China rising in economic strength. And, what, we have the right to say who rises and who falls around the world?
And what about the two Michaels? Do you get the feeling that if they didn't exist it would have been necessary to invent them in this campaign against China? Do we actually know the circumstances of their alleged crimes? Or is it just that since they are Canadians, they are innocent? Meanwhile we detain a Chinese national -- for no crime committed in Canada! Sure, we have a treaty. And there's no way around it?
Armament build-ups, threats and sanctions -- none of this takes us towards a more unified and cooperative world, facing the threat of new pandemics but also the existential threat of climate break-down. Don't we expect more wisdom and foresight from our leaders? Why are we getting none at all?
