LETTER
------ Clay tennis courts?
The debate on your pages (Letters to the Editor) over clay tennis courts for Aylmer appears to me a little precious, given the present times and the priorities we have for public funds. Counsellor Duggan's remarks seem appropriate to me, and I am not a tennis player. So, my taxes go to give these people tennis courts - and some then complain about the surface? I agree with Mr Duggan's remarks: find a private entrepreneur who will invest (if there are so many players who prefer clay courts), and look at multi-use courts? Apparently, pickle-ball, which I had never heard of, and basketball have as many or more adepts as does tennis.
How many people complain about city services, rough roads, etc and yet also complain about their taxes -- but just try to raise the taxes a little for these extra benefits! Good luck, city council!
