COVID-19 Pandemic
Emergency Protocols: The school system is ready
In accordance with the government game plan presented last June by the Minister of Education, Mr. Jean-François Roberge, all school service centres now have emergency protocols in place to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. These protocols are strategically important because they must allow, in the event of the closure of a class or school, a rapid transition to quality distance education and thus the continuation of learning. Minimum thresholds for distance education, particularly when a class is temporarily closed, have also been established to ensure equity and quality in the school system.
The protocols cover six essential dimensions: management, communications, educational services, support for students with disabilities or with adaptation or learning difficulties (ADHD) and students with special needs, mental health and well-being support, and material and information resources.
In addition to these protocols, the Minister of Education has made $150 million available to School Service Centres for the purchase of tablets and laptops. Close to 200,000 devices have already been ordered and will be available for loan to students and staff who need them should the emergency protocols be activated.
