End of the run for the Griffons
Brigitte Mainville
Saturday afternoon, the Griffons were hosting the Edouard-Montpetit Lynx for the quarter-finals of division 2 RSEQ football. The Griffons were doing well during the game, leading 23 to 9 with 5 minutes to go. Then, the Lynx somehow found unbridled energy and were able to equal the score with less than one minute to go. The Griffons took possession of the ball, progressed downfield and attempted a field goal in the dying seconds of the game. The Lynx managed to deviate the ball and it went into overtime. The Griffons scored a touchdown, then so did the Lynx. Second overtime: the Lynx scored a touchdown then so did the Griffons. Third overtime: the Griffons were unable to capitalize and the Lynx managed a field goal to win the game 40 to 37. A heartbreaking ending for the Griffons. Though they clearly would have prefered a different ending to their season, we can say their first season in division 2 was successful. They managed a 6 - 3 season and made the play-offs. I would like to point out that some of our veterans have signed with CIS teams: some are joining the Ottawa U GeeGees, others, the Carleton Ravens and some are still pondering their options. We wish them the best of luck. For the Griffons, watch for them next year.
