Gatineau postpones council decisions for Vanier 251-unit apartment complex

A 251-unit apartment complex is proposed for the southeast corner of the Vanier and Boulevard Allumettières intersection, featuring a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom units, including 26 affordable units. The $68 million project has raised concerns about increased traffic in the already developing area. Residents are urging the city to expand Vanier Road before further development. Despite these concerns, city documents suggest the impact on traffic to be limited, but future issues may arise if not addressed. The proposal has received support from Gatineau’s urban planning department.
In a Facebook video Anik des Marais, Mitigomijokan councillor and Carolin Murray, Deschênes councillor, announced that the decision has been postponed allowing for the developer to organize a meeting with concerned residents.
“We have had multiple meetings, both between elected representatives and the city's urban services, but also with the promoter, and we have agreed to withdraw the project from the agenda for next week at the municipal council. The promoter has offered to meet the citizens to inform them of his project,” said Anik des Marais in the video.
More information about the meeting for residents with the developer will be announced soon.
