---- Greenwashing Chalk River plans
I appreciate the attention the Bulletin has given to federal government plans to store a massive amount of radioactive waste upstream from Gatineau and Ottawa on the Ottawa River. This is our water source. Now that same government is actively promoting another big project for SNC Lavalin: the design, creation and testing of small nuclear power stations designed to be scattered across the north. There seems to be no worry about creating more nuclear waste, and, especially, having that toxic waste in small depots all over the north, where there is a shortage of trained specialists and even a shortage of access to these sites. Worst of all this government is calling these toxic dumps "green energy"!
Just because nuclear power does not release CO2, nuclear energy plants cannot be seen to be free of emissions. That is plainly "greenwashing" of the biggest kind.
I have been concerned with the nuclear activities there for the last twenty years, but no one much seems even aware of the plans. I am glad this newspaper gives it some of the attention and concern it needs.
In fact, please provide more information. we are not getting it anywhere else, and we are getting this greenwashing in place of hard information. We depend on sources like independent media because the corporate media world is not on our side ... not in the slightest.
