Aylmer’s two big rinks were flooded with adult hockey players between January 20 and 24 as over 70 games were played during the annual 30-plus hockey tournament.
Now in its 40th year, Aylmer’s 30-Plus league attracted teams from across the region for the winter classic. With more than 200 players from 18 teams playing in three divisions, 30 +, 40 + and the Rec division, the tournament helped the league raise $2,750 for Hockey Access, the Aylmer Food Bank, and l’Autre Chez Soi.
Revenues came mainly came from food and beverages sold at the Frank Robinson Arena. As tradition has it, the biggest seller was the classic “Choquette”, a steamed hot-dog in a baguette, served by the Chili Chicks, volunteer hockey wives.
This year’s winners: Big Cats defeated Fagen to win the 30+ division. Cyclones won the 40+ division, while Dax Trax were crowned winners in the Rec division.
