Open letter to Gatineau city council : new hospital
Eric Beaudoin's letter judging the Gatineau Municipal Council's location for a new hospital got it absolutely correct, the Municipal Council got it absolutely wrong!
OK, I get it. You wrecked Aylmer with your 2002 "merger" scheme. Dismantled police and fire services, ransacked the inventory of service equipment. Poured our budget surplus into the Gatineau pot and raised our taxes for reduced services. You tore down our City Hall! You continue flooding our community with thousands of new homes and created an infrastructure crisis! Overloaded sewer and water treatment! Forcing on us all a ridiculous tramway scheme with astronomical costs to create a railbed that will clog our roads and inflict a year after year maintenance tax burden beyond reason, rather than a rational and cost effective electric bus fleet that would use our upgraded existing roads, be cost effective, and be an environmental benefit that helps everyone! Helps everyone just like a new hospital in Aylmer would benefit the 56,500 residents in Aylmer and the West Hull community.
Gatineau Municipal Council, now that you've had us under your wing for 20 years, do something to help our community! Treat us like we matter for more than growing tax revenue from the 15% increase in population since 2002. It's been 20 years since Aylmer was swallowed up by Hull/Gatineau! Treat us fairly already, you won, we belong to you! We need a hospital in West Gatineau, formerly Aylmer.
