LETTER
Open letter to Greg Fergus, MP
I'm writing you to inquire about the report you promised to provide participants in your virtual town hall meeting on Gatineau Park last fall. I thought that was a really good exercise in direct democracy and I can't
applaud you enough over taking such a worthy initiative.
As you know, the park continues to be threatened by development and citizens have spoken loud and clear: they want better protection for the park.
So I think your issuing a report highlighting the issues and opinions expressed at your town hall last November--five months ago--would be most timely and welcome. In my view, you might also take the opportunity of including in that report a summary of the government's plans regarding legislative protection.
I remind you that you promised to include Gatineau Park protection among your top priorities during the 2015 election, that you had to apologize for neglecting the file during an all-candidates meeting at the University of Quebec in 2019. So I think you owe it to your constituents to tell them what you will do to protect the Gatineau Park, one of Canada’s national treasures.
