LETTER
------- Questions for every Quebec MP
The Task Force on Linguistic Policy has challenged all Members of Parliament from Quebec to level with their fellow citizens about language issues at the provincial and federal level. To that end, it has sent a questionnaire to every Member of Parliament from Quebec.
There are five questions in the questionnaire. In brief: a) Support of the passage of Quebec's Bill 96; b) Support of the passage of amendments to the federal Official Languages Act; c) Whether Members of Parliament have a duty and a responsibility to protect the rights of minority language communities across Canada; d) Whether the federal government use its Constitutional power of disallowance on Bill 96; and e) Whether Quebec can unilaterally amend the Canadian Constitution and declare Quebecers and all of Quebec a nation.
The failure to answer the questionnaire will be seen as support for Bill 96 and changes to the Official Languages Act as set out in Bill C-32 by the Liberal Party of Canada.
The Task Force on Linguistic Policy is a grassroots, member-based, organization with broad support across Quebec among members of all linguistic and cultural communities. It counts thousands of supporters and is not dependent on government funding. The Task Force was established in May, 2021, in response to the threats (that we see) posed to the human rights of all Quebecers by Bills 96 and C-32.
