LETTER
------ Reform Quebec's voting system
On October 12, 13, 14 and 15, some 20 CAQ MPs will be visited by citizens' delegations at their constituency offices to demand that they keep their word and adopt Bill 39, which would introduce a compensatory mixed member proportional voting system for Quebec.
The citizens' marches organized by the Coalition for Electoral Reform Now! will ask Prime Minister Legault not to abandon voting reform in the new parliamentary session and to make this clear in his upcoming inaugural message.
"We were shocked to see the House Leader rise in the House to reject the motion tabled jointly by the MPs for Jean Lesage and Rimouski, representing two of the three parties that signed the 2018 agreement, who were simply asking to finish the work begun on Bill 39. Was Mr. Jolin-Barrette paving the way for Mr. Legault," said Françoise David, Vice-President of DND.
It should be noted that DND leaders have still not received a response to their open letter of August 30, in which they asked Prime Minister Legault to clarify his intentions regarding his commitment not to make a Justin Trudeau of himself and to pass a law modifying Quebec's electoral system that dates back to 1792!
