---Rogers takes 5G technology to Gatineau

Planning on reaching more than 60 Canadian markets by the end of the year, Rogers Communications expanded its 5G technology rollout to 50 towns and cities last week – effectively introducing the revolutionary network to Gatineau. Reducing the lag between sending a Facebook friend request and the network responding to one millisecond – 400 times faster than the blink of an eye – a press release issued by Rogers Communications on September 1 explained that 5G technology will be a complete game changer for everyday digital interactions.

Described as the best, most reliable and trusted network nationwide, it noted that 5G technology is projected to become the “most transformative” technology since the introduction of wireless services in 1985. It explained that, with its usage and commercial investments in the network, 5G technology is projected to help create 250,000 new permanent jobs in Canada by 2026, while contributing $40 billion to the country’s economy.

Rogers Communications President and CEO Joe Natale emphasized that 5G technology will play a significant role in resurging Canada’s economy by making Canadians more efficient and productive with the fastest technology on the market. “5G is the next big leap forward that will change how we live and work,” said Natale. “Strong digital infrastructure and investments in 5G are critical to fuel productivity and innovation across this country now, as we power out of COVID-19, and in the future as we reset the competitive landscape for Canada, globally,” he added. It added that 5G is currently available to Rogers customers on Infinite plans and unlimited business wireless plans with 5G-compatible devices.

This follows Rogers Communications’ inaugural 5G rollout in Canada, announced back in January, making the network available in Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver. Rogers Communications is a founder of the 5G Future Forum, dedicated to establishing a global framework for 5G networks with mobile edge computing in the Americas, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
