Summit on educational success: education beyond the pandemic
In order to ensure school perseverance and promote the educational success of Québec students, both now and in the aftermath of the pandemic, the Minister of Education Jean-François Roberge has initiated consultations with various stakeholders in the school system in order to draw up a preliminary assessment of the findings and impacts that the health crisis has had on Québec students and educational environments, and to collectively define a plan to revive educational success. The Summit on Educational Success; Education Beyond the Pandemic (Rendez-vous pour la réussite éducative: l'éducation au-delà de la pandémie) will be held virtually on March 31 and April 1.
Through these consultations, the Education Minister intends to define a clear and consistent way forward in the wake of the pandemic and to identify immediate priority actions to address some of the effects of the pandemic on Québec students and educational environments. These discussions will allow the various stakeholders to identify and recommend priority measures for an educational recovery plan that will be implemented in the summer of 2021 and will continue throughout the 2021-2022 school year. Three major themes are guiding the consultation process and the preparation of a concerted plan, namely, educational success and catching up, school organization and pedagogical frameworks, and wellbeing and mental health. This exercise will provide the school network with a common vision to ensure the perseverance and success of the greatest number of students.
The general public can also participate in the consultations by submitting their observations, ideas and reflections in the form of a written submission, which must be sent by email to rendezvousreussite2021@education.gouv.qc.ca by April 9, 2021. To this end, you will find a written submission template and a consultation workbook with definitions of the three themes on the Summit webpage. For each theme, participants are invited to answer the following questions: What courses of action should be maintained or enhanced? What new actions could be deployed? Are there achievements that we can maintain after the crisis?
Considering the importance of educational success and the emerging social consensus on the need to further support students who are experiencing difficulties, and to equip school staff in this particular context, the Minister considers this consultation process to be a unique opportunity to discuss together the actions that need to be taken without delay, in the interest of all Québec students.
"The current situation deserves that we all, more than ever, put our efforts together to ensure that students have everything they need to persevere and succeed despite the crisis we are experiencing," said Minister Roberge. "It is a call for consultation, mobilization and action that I am launching today in order to prioritize the success of all students and to mitigate the impact that the crisis may have had or may still have on them in the medium term."
