I expect the Bulletin's letter-writers will have plenty to say about recent political events in the USA. I expect at least a page of letters on the Washington DC fiasco!  So I would like to take this opportunity to say that one of the good things of the Trump years is that it demonstrated (finally) that many American politicians who once seemed to be plainly crass, actually have a conscience.  Karl Rove has some ethics! Who would have guessed this ten years ago, as he shoved George Bush to power. Or to see Mitt Romney speaking like a man of honour and integrity?  Some of Trump's own appointees, advisors and ministers showed a mini-burst of morality right at the end, and who ever expected that?

So, even the darkest cloud, while not lined with silver, does have some bursts of honour. That's a lesson from Mr Trump.

The downside is it will take the Americans a decade or more to undo and heal the damage that this unsavory crowd has visited upon America.  But today, I'll take any glimmer of light!
