----- Wage subsidies for the wealthiest?
As we plunge our nation's future into huge debt, much of it necessary due to the ravages of Covid and our attempts to get it under control and to return to normal life, it is stunning to learn that heading into the pandemic, Canada’s highest-paid CEOs made 202 times more than average worker was paid in 2019. Equally important is to note that over a third of top-paid CEOs in 2019 ran companies that received the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy in 2020! These numbers were taken from a January report by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA), in Ottawa.
Whereas many people are asking that the extremely wealthy people pay a little more in taxes to get us through these damaging times (since their wealth is guaranteed and protected by the financial and political system paid for by all Canadians), it seems the federal government always adds a reverse tax here, making sure the wealthiest and the largest corporations "get their share" -- plus much more. Does this make sense? And to who?
