10th Anniversary of the Naval League of Canada Cadet Corps Grande-Rivière

On Saturday, May 23, 2026, a military parade was held by the Naval League of Canada (CCLN) Cadet Corps Grande-Rivière, composed of members aged 9 to 12, and the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps (CCMRC) La Hulloise, composed of members aged 12 to 18.
This was also an opportunity to celebrate a pivotal moment in the history of the CCLN Grande-Rivière, as it celebrated its 10th anniversary.
Celebrations
The day's program began with the formation of the parade and the arrival of dignitaries. The event continued with the appearance of the guest of honour, Adrian Corbo, City Councillor for the Manoir-Des-Trembles district. He was keen to admire the cadets' performances and to highlight the initiative of the CCMRC La Hulloise and the CCLN Grande-Rivière, whose members, mostly volunteers, contribute to the cadets' development and the vitality of the community.
The event unfolded with a parade and the national anthem, including a general salute, much to the delight of the crowd, composed mainly of parents. Of course, celebrations mean awards, and there were many to present to the cadets and staff members! The cadets received about ten awards in the form of trophies and other prizes. Staff members and instructors were presented with medals to recognize their 5 and 10 years of service, among other things. The event, which lasted a good two hours, also included military drill demonstrations and a musical performance during the parade, featuring percussion and a new song.
A change in leadership was also on the horizon, as Valérie Blouin, Commanding Officer of the Grande-Rivière CCLN, who was a 10-year member during its early years, will become a Legionnaire Officer and instructor. Lee Cyr-Lamothe will take over from Valérie as Commanding Officer. For Blouin, this change will be beneficial for the group, which she believes needed a fresh perspective. “I would have stayed on as Commanding Officer,” she says. “But change is necessary. It was a collaborative decision, and I’m returning to work with the cadets, so this new challenge is exciting!”
Values Developed
Through their many activities, the cadets develop a sense of responsibility toward society, leadership skills, physical activity (which involves adopting a healthy and active lifestyle), and a spirit of adventure that fosters discovery and challenges, among other things.
Birth of the Grande-Rivière Cadet Training Center (CCLN Grande-Rivière)
CCLN Grande-Rivière, also known as CCLN 216, was officially founded in July 2016. At its inception, it comprised a team of eight dedicated officers and instructors under the leadership of Claire Bourassa, the first commanding officer of this new unit. The name Grande-Rivière was chosen following a contest, in homage to the Ottawa River, a powerful symbol of the region and its identity.
