Mark your Calendars for February 22! The Aydelu Ice Fishing Derby is back for the third year. Guy Rochon, President of the Aydelu center in Aylmer took over the organization of the fishing derby three years ago from the Chevalier des Colombes. For many years, this event has brought the community together for a fun day and to support local charities.
This year all proceeds will be donated to L’autre Chez Soi, a local women’s shelter and Meals on Wheels who deliver affordable meals to people in need. “Last year we were able to give each organization $6,500 each. We hope to do the same this year,” said Rochon.
Partnering with 819 fishing tactics, Aydelu hopes this will be the best Ice Fishing Derby yet. There will be gifts for all those participating in the fishing derby, as well as draws for prizes. 819 fishing tactics will be on site showing kids how to ice fish for free.
The derby will take place Saturday February 22nd at Simard Bay in Deschênes. All participants should bring their own equipment. No vehicle on the ice. The event opens for registration at 7am and closes registration at noon. The derby will take place from 7am to 3pm. There is a limit of 235 people for the derby. The organizers note that the boat ramp is not accessible for any motorized vehicles. The event will cost $30 dollars for adults, and $10 for children 12 and under.
These tickets include the supper that will take place at the Aydelu center, 94 rue du Patrimoine, at 5 pm. For those who do not fish but want to attend the dinner there are dinner-only tickets which are $15 dollars for adults and $10 dollars for children 12 and under. It will be a bean supper served by La Binerie Plantagenet.
