----Aylmer man in his early twenties dies in Lafarge quarry drowning
On August 13, local law enforcement authorities located the body of a man in his early twenties drowned in the Lafarge quarry at chemin Pink and Vanier Road. Stating that police received a call regarding a man disappearing at the quarry shortly before 9 pm, (SPVG) spokesperson Renée Anne St-Amant told the Aylmer Bulletin that people who were with the victim contacted authorities after losing sight of him while he was swimming in the water.
With Sûreté du Québec divers, SPVG canine units, and firefighters called to the scene to search for the body the following day, the SPVG’s nautical unit was also on hand to investigate the matter. The investigation is ongoing, St-Amant said.
To prevent such incidents from happening again, St-Amant advised the public to stay away from unfamiliar bodies of water. Also reminding people of the importance of being familiar with depth of water before venturing in, she stressed to always wear individual life jackets when swimming in areas without supervision such as the quarry. City officials note the site is private property and not a public swimming location.
