Berber new year celebration brings culture, music, and festivities to Gatineau
On Sunday, January 12, the Palais des Congrès in Gatineau came alive with the sights and sounds of Yennayer 2975, the Berber New Year, hosted by L’Amicale des Algériens au Canada in collaboration with Hand d'Or. The celebration began at 10:00 am with a vibrant exhibition of Tamazigh art and culture, featuring traditional crafts, artisanal goods, and a variety of vendor booths offering authentic Algerian delicacies. Guests enjoyed a day of cultural immersion, exploring the rich heritage of the Berber community. The evening concert was the highlight, with captivating performances by renowned artists Taous, Djamel Lahlou, Cheb Zaki, and Cheb Yani, filling the venue with energy and joy. Free admission ensured a large and diverse crowd, who gathered not just to enjoy the festivities but also to connect with the Berber traditions and community spirit.
