Boucher Forest kicks off a month full of activities
Jude Osmond
Celebration of the "Fête de Forêt Boucher" began on Saturday, October 3. The day was full of activities and kiosks throughout the forest, featuring many outdoor associations and partners. This was the start of multiple activities planned for the month of October.
The event took place from 10 am to 3 pm, with activities throughout the day presented by different organizations. The activities included flower planting presented by LocalLeaf, a fitness exercise with Cardio plein air, a bird bingo activity with Enviro Educ-Action, and many more that kept participants busy throughout the day.
There were kiosks offering a variety of information and small activities to keep everyone entertained. Many Boucher Forest partners hosted kiosks, including Mycologues amateurs de l’Outaouais, Club des ornithologues de l’Outaouais and more.
New campaign
The Boucher Forest Foundation used the event to announce their new fundraising campaign, with a goal of $100,000 over 12 months. The campaign is called Forêt Boucher: votre don, un héritage naturel. The funds will support forest maintenance, allowing residents to enjoy the forest for years to come. Projects include ecological toilets, improving and maintaining the accessibility of footbridges and trails, and developing new educational and awareness-raising activities to protect and rehabilitate the ecosystem.
All contributors of over $100 are eligible to have their names engraved on a board placed along one of the walkways in the forest, allowing them to leave a positive mark on the forest.
The next event is on Saturday, October 10, with a nature photography initiation. Registration is required.
