Clothing Collection Returns to Two Gatineau Neighbourhoods

The City of Gatineau will continue its pilot project for curbside collection of clothing and textiles in certain sectors of the Plateau and Angers neighbourhoods in September 2026.

After two initial collections involving more than 1,000 households, the initiative diverted 18 tonnes of clothing and textiles from landfill.

For this third collection, the eligible areas have been slightly expanded, targeting nearly 10,000 households.

Residents must register by September 15 to take advantage of the service. Registration can be done online on the city's website, through the DTRITUS mobile app, or by calling 311.

The collection will take place on September 16 in the Angers neighbourhood, and then on September 17 and 18 in the Plateau sector.

Types of Items and Procedures

Several types of items will be accepted, including clothing, household linens, shoes, and accessories such as bags, belts, and hats. Textiles with holes, damage, or fading can also be dropped off, provided they are clean, dry, and free of unpleasant odors.

Items must be placed in a securely closed bag. Bags of all colours are accepted, but the word "TEXTILES" must be clearly marked on black or opaque bags for easy identification.

The collection will be carried out by Tricentris. The collected materials will then be sorted by local organizations and sent to appropriate outlets, including reuse.

In addition to this one-time collection, residents can also give their textiles a second life by using donation boxes, reuse organizations, recycling centers, or peer-to-peer donation and resale platforms.
