Construction underway on Aylmer's new police station

Aylmer’s new police station is now expected to be ready in spring 2028, later than first planned, after the city adjusted the construction schedule following the awarding of the contract in July 2025.
The project has moved through three key stages: planning, the preparation of plans and specifications, and the start of construction. The city awarded a $22,662,377.33 construction contract to Groupe GMR Construction Inc. on July 9, 2025. Work began in the spring of 2025.
The new building is being constructed next to the current police station on chemin d'Aylmer. The existing station remains open during the work to ensure uninterrupted local service. Once the new building is fully in use, the old one will be demolished.
City officials say it is too early to determine the final total cost of the project. The amount awarded covers construction only and does not include professional fees, interior setup or possible changes that could arise as the project moves forward.
The official opening will take place after police services have moved into the new facility and the occupancy phase is complete.
The Aylmer station is part of Gatineau's broader centralized police infrastructure plan, which also includes the construction of a new headquarters in Hull. The city has not provided further details on how the two projects are coordinated.
The project will replace a station that has reached the end of its useful life and is intended to meet the needs of Aylmer's growing population. The new facility is designed to meet LEED Gold environmental standards, with energy-efficient systems and improved use of natural light.
It will house local police and administrative services, including complaint intake, background checks, permit applications and other routine services for residents.
