---COVID-19 update: 28 new cases overnight, 278 active cases regionally
The number of COVID-19 cases in the Outaouais since the start of the pandemic had reached 3,751 on December 7, marking a rise of 28 from the previous day. According to the Centre intégré de la santé et des services sociaux de l’Outaouais (CISSSO), 3,387 people had recovered from the virus as of the same date.
Counting 278 active cases in the community, it added that 86 people in the region had died from the virus so far – five more than last week. CISSSO said it administered an average of 403 COVID-19 screening tests per day, over the previous seven days.
Accounting 3,060 cumulative cases and 191 active ones attributed to Gatineau’s urban core, it added that the MRC de Papineau had 370 cumulative cases and 48 actives ones, the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais had 174 overall with 16 active cases, the MRC de la Vallée-de-la-Gatineau recorded 69 cumulative cases with 14 active cases, and the MRC de Pontiac had 46 total cases and eight active ones.
It added that the origin of five or less cases had yet to be determined. With 20 people in the region hospitalized last week, it noted that one required intensive care. CISSSO added that 63 health care employees were actively infected by the virus.
Having experienced viral outbreaks in more than a dozen of its facilities across the region, CISSSO notably indicated that the Résidence Cité-Jardin seniors’ home in Gatineau has been home to 111 cumulative cases and 16 deaths with one active case and 94 people recovered. Résidence la Gappe also in Gatineau had 70 cumulative cases and 11 deaths with six active cases remaining and 53 people recovered.
