A four-year-old girl has died after going into cardiac arrest when she was struck during a sledding accident on Feb. 22 at Nakkertok Park in Val-des-Monts.
The Service de la Sécurité publique de la MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais said officers were called to 62, route du Carrefour to assist paramedics and the Val-des-Monts fire department.
Police said the girl was riding in a sled being pulled by an adult who was cross-country skiing. At one point, the adult fell and struck the child. Several people were nearby at the time of the incident.
Emergency crews found the child in cardiorespiratory arrest and began resuscitation efforts. She was transported to the Wakefield hospital and later transferred to the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa, where her death was confirmed.
Police have said there is no indication of foul play and that the incident appears to have been accidental.
In a statement, the Nakkertok cross-country ski centre said: “A serious injury occurred today at Nakkertok Val-des-Monts. We wish to thank the fire department, police, and paramedics who provided care. We will provide an update as we receive more information. Our thoughts are with the family of the injured and those affected in our skiing community.”
