---Gatineau Police fine two for reckless driving in school zones
On May 12, Gatineau Police officers nabbed two people for driving recklessly in school zones and causing potential danger to students.
According to a press release issued by Gatineau Police (SPVG) on May 13, the first incident occurred at around 8:30 am, when an officer patrolling near l’École des Marais in Aylmer caught a driver in the wrong lane on rue du Marigot. It stated that the 37-year-old used the oncoming traffic lane to pass other vehicles while children were walking to school.
Police fined the offender $1,550 and added four demerit points for committing an act that could put the safety of people and properties at risk of danger.
The second incident, which took place in the early afternoon, saw an officer pull over a driver for excessive speeding on boulevard Alexandre-Taché. The driver, a 26-year-old, was caught going 71 km an hour in a 30 km an hour zone.
Police fined the driver $540, added six demerit points to his driver's record and suspended his licence for seven days. With kids back in school, after a several-week hiatus, police are reminding people to drive particularly cautiously in school zones, and that SPVG officers will be providing extra patrolling services to ensure drivers respect road regulations and that people are safe.
