On the early morning of November 13, after hearing a blast, nearby residents alerted emergency services of the fire at 96 Brook Street in Aylmer. At 1:36 am, police officers were assisting firefighters at the scene, and the situation was deemed under control at 2:48 am.
The semi-detached one-storey residential building was unoccupied at the time of the fire. There was only one unit. Losses are estimated at $100,000. No one was injured in the incident. After the flames were under control, the investigation was handed over to Gatineau Police. The fire is considered suspicious and may be arson.
Police are now asking the public for help in identifying a suspect vehicle. The black pickup truck, which could be a Ford F-150, was first observed near the intersection of Brook and Parker Streets at the time of the event. The vehicle could be a 2015 or newer and is equipped with a trailer hitch. Police note the muffler is behind the passenger side rear wheel, and the vehicle's sound suggests the truck may have been modified.
On November 29, a spokesperson for the Gatineau police stated that there were no further developments in the case, and they are still looking to identify the vehicle and its owner. Anyone with information that could locate the vehicle, or the owner of the vehicle, is encouraged to contact police on their info line 819 243-4636, option 5.
