Group of teens detained by police, after attempting to flee in plain sight

Gatineau police received a call at approximately 3 pm on January 17, regarding a group of adolescents wearing masks, who were potentially armed in a business on Vanier Road. Once the police arrived on the scene, the group had already left. Another group of teenagers told police that they were followed and threatened by the group before they left the scene. 
Officers on patrol in the area located the suspected group of young people. The police were about to detain them in handcuffs for investigation when they attempted to flee in plain sight. After searching the group of five teenagers, police seized a telescopic stick and a knife. One of the youths involved was released without charge, but given a peace and order by-law violation for having a knife in his possession. 
The five teens were released with conditions. Charges for uttering threats, intimidation, failure to comply with orders, and possession of a weapon with dangerous intent were submitted to the Directeur des Poursuites Criminelles et Pénales with the Chambre de la Jeunesse. Not all the teens involved will face all these charges. Charges will be laid based on the level of involvement in the incident.
