--- Health care: go to Ottawa
Built in 1911 our Hull hospital needs to be renewed or replaced. 2 billion$ for a 1,000 bed hospital should become the most important project for Gatineau. Gatineau residents need to smarten up and demand better health care and facilities. Gatineau needs a state of the art hospital yesterday!
Potholes, sidewalks, water and sewage infrastructure are necessary capital works projects throughout Gatineau, but our health care facilities are 3rd rate. Considering the devastation of Covid-19, there should be a reordering of municipal spending priorities for the next 3 years. It's time for restraint; projects like LRT and $125 million libraries should be off the table for 25-30 years.
All politicians ought to recognize the necessity of proper medical care for everyone. Why do we accept what we have? Funding for West Quebec projects by Quebec has forever been a joke.
Citizens must stand up for what is really needed -- a new 1,000 bed hospital.
If there is no reordering of spending priorities by Gatineau and Quebec, my recommendation is to go across the bridge en masse for health care. It costs Quebec about $125 M per year for health costs of Gatineau citizens at Ottawa hospitals. It's time to boycott the Hull and Gatineau hospitals and go across the bridge. Why do we put up with mediocrity in our health-care facilities?
