L’EntourElle: A lifeline for women escaping violence

L’EntourElle, a vital community organization, provides shelter, advocacy, and comprehensive support to women facing violence and hardship. With a mission centred on empowerment and protection, it offers a confidential and secure space where survivors and their children can rebuild their lives.
Based in Fort-Coulonge, the organization serves women across the Outaouais region, offering bilingual and free-of-charge services. It recognizes that domestic violence is a pervasive issue—one that affects families, workplaces, and entire communities. According to recent statistics, 75% of victims do not seek help, and in Canada, a woman is murdered by an intimate partner every six days. These realities underscore the urgent need for resources that support women in breaking free from abusive environments.
“Our goal is to provide a safe space where women can take the first steps toward a life free from violence,” said Gisèle Mousseau, Director of L’EntourElle. “We want them to know that help is available, that they are not alone, and that they deserve to live without fear.”
A wide range of essential services is available, tailored to different needs. Women seeking safety can access emergency shelter, crisis intervention, and emotional support. Additional resources include parental guidance, external follow-up care, and specialized prevention and awareness programs addressing various forms of violence. Support groups and custom workshops further equip individuals with the skills to regain autonomy and confidence.
Beyond direct assistance for survivors, outreach extends to youth and seniors. Educational programs cover topics such as bullying, hypersexualization, and healthy relationships, helping younger generations develop an understanding of consent and respect. Meanwhile, older women facing domestic or family-related violence receive specialized aid, including self-esteem workshops and prevention initiatives.
Community engagement is also a cornerstone of this work. Awareness campaigns, kiosks, and outreach initiatives help ensure those in need know where to turn for help. While its address remains confidential for security reasons, the team is accessible through a helpline and online platforms, making it easier for women to reach out discreetly.
For many survivors, the journey to safety starts with a single phone call and for those seeking support or wanting to learn more, the organization can be contacted at (819) 683-2709 or via email at accueil@lentourelle.com.
