National Day of Action on Affordability
On Saturday, February 21, a dozen volunteers went door-to-door and made phone calls to present the NDP plan to make life more affordable to residents of Aylmer-Hull. This day of action is part of a national offensive – volunteers in many ridings went around to their neighbours’ doors. “Presence on the ground is one of the NDP’s priorities,” said Nycole Turmel. “The response was very good. People are always surprised to see us because we aren’t in an election campaign.”
Over 15,000 Canadians have already joined the NDP campaign to make life more affordable. The Conservatives have rejected NDP proposals to ease the burden on families and also voted against an NDP motion to cap ATM fees.
“The Conservatives talk a good game but have failed to address exorbitant interest rates or unfair ATM fees,” said NDP Consumer Affairs critic Andrew Cash (Sudbury). “Making life more affordable for Canadian families is a priority for New Democrats and we’re taking action to make it happen.”
