New service: municipal management support for English-speaking communities 

The Association of Municipal Directors of Quebec (Association des directeurs municipaux du Québec — ADMQ) has announced a new management support service for English-speaking communities. With funding from the Secretariat for Relations with English-speaking Quebecers (Secrétariat aux relations avec les Québécois d'expression anglaise), the ADMQ will implement a project to provide coaching and technical support to municipal managers over the next three years. 

Management in the municipal sector is very complex, with numerous laws and regulations governing the function. In addition, the many accountability mechanisms can sometimes be hard to navigate. Adequate support, as well as the availability of technical tools and training, are essential to ensure successful integration into the job. 

With more than 600 retirements expected among general managers and secretary-treasurers between 2019 and 2023, there is a significant need for support and tools in the field, especially with the large number of managers starting in these positions.  

Currently, the service offered to municipal managers is almost exclusively in French: management support services, technical tools, training, etc. Thus, to support and assist municipal managers working in English-speaking communities, the ADMQ will now offer a technical support service tailored to this reality. This will allow for timely communication with new managers and ensure the best possible integration and a more facilitative handling of their various responsibilities. In addition, practical tools will be translated into English and training will be offered in that language.

"The challenge for any new manager in the municipal field is significant due to the many regulations and laws, and therefore, it became essential to provide appropriate tools and training for directors general working in English-speaking environments."
