Aylmer’s basketball star Olivier Hanlan will likely don the colours of Team Canada during the qualifiers of the next FIBA (International Basketball Federation - Fédération internationale de basket-ball) Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas.
Now playing in Texas for the Austin Spurs in the G-League, Hanlan is fresh off a victorious postseason in the NBA’s minor league. Hanlan, a former Grande-Rivière student, joined the franchise owned by the NBA San Antonio Spurs after two seasons in European leagues. Hanlan was drafted in 2015 by the Utah Jazz following a great run in the NCAA with Boston College. Hanlan was awarded the ACC Rookie of the Year while with Boston.
Hanlan will try to recreate his amazing college performances with Team Canada. The team will face China in the Pacific Rim Basketball Classic in BC, June 22, in Vancouver. The games move to the Memorial Centre in Victoria, June 24.
Canada resumes the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Americas Qualifiers with a first-place showdown against Dominican Republic, June 29, in Toronto, before concluding the first-round with a Canada Day long-weekend matchup versus US Virgin Islands at The Arena at TD Place, July 2, in Ottawa.
The Richmond Olympic Oval will host training camp, June 20-21.
