Swim, cycle and run – The Gatineau Triathlon
Christian Rochefort
Beautiful weather allowed approximately 1,000 athletes from across Canada to participate in the various categories of the 34th edition of the Gatineau Triathlon, held at Lac Leamy on Saturday, July 4.
The day's program included, among other events, an Olympic triathlon, a duathlon, and an aquathlon; 1 km, 5 km, and 100 km races; youth events (ages 6 to 15); the Quebec Youth Cup U13/U15 (Quebec championship); the Outaouais regional final; and the Quebec Cup and Super Series Sprint – World Championship Qualifier.
The event was organized by Club Espoir de Gatineau, a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote triathlon and support the development of youth aged 7 to 17. The triathlon was managed by numerous volunteers who were supported by specialized organizations such as the timing and medical teams.
According to race director Steve Tousignant, preparations for the 35th edition of the Gatineau Triathlon will begin almost immediately after the tournament concludes this year.
