The Olympiques are banking on a new hockey structure to return to the top

Just over a month before the start of the 2026-2027 season of the Maritime Junior Hockey League of Quebec (QMJHL), the region's team, the Gatineau Olympiques, unveiled their new hockey operations structure.

The main change is the appointment of Sébastien Charpentier as general manager. The former assistant general manager of the Val-d'Or Foreurs, he succeeds Serge Beausoleil, who will now be able to fully dedicate himself to his role as head coach.

"We are very excited to introduce a hockey structure that will work well together and allow the Olympiques to return to the top of the standings and win championships," said board chairman François Beaudry.

With over a decade of experience in the QMJHL, Sébastien Charpentier has also held various positions with the Drummondville Voltigeurs and the Victoriaville Tigres.

For his part, Serge Beausoleil officially returns to the bench full-time after simultaneously serving as general manager and head coach for the past few seasons.

The organization also confirmed the return of a familiar face to Gatineau fans: former Olympiques captain and two-time President's Cup champion Maxime Talbot, who joins the team as a senior advisor in hockey operations. The Stanley Cup champion with the Pittsburgh Penguins in the National Hockey League (NHL) will be involved in strategic decisions, recruitment, player evaluation, and the development of the organizational culture.

The Olympiques are counting on the stability of their new management team to begin a new chapter in their history and become a competitive team in the QMJHL once again.
