The stakes in this election
The stakes of the September election are high. The parties' election promises and platforms must be assessed, as well as the government's record. It is essential to ask which parties would be most competent to manage the pandemic, including health and safety measures such as vaccine procurement and equipment, vaccination policy, scientific information, economic assistance programs for businesses, families and seniors.
There is the management of public finances - should a balanced budget be sought during a pandemic? If so, what impact on social programs would we accept? There is also the very urgent issue of climate change and gun control. Is abortion rights in jeopardy as one party aims to give doctors a choice based on their conscience?
And where do the parties stand on getting the web giants to contribute financially to the creation and discovery of Canadian cultural content? - a policy of particular importance to Quebec. A bill to that effect was blocked in the Senate -- by one party.
These days, misinformation flows freely and there is a lot of hate speech. Which party is more likely to clean it up? These are a lot of issues that affect our future, and why it's important to vote. (Translated)
