Western Québec School Board Elections suspended indefinitely
Following the government of Québec’s designation of both the City of Gatineau and the MRC des Collines-de-l’Outaouais regions as "Red Zones" (effective since midnight, October 11) and the provincial decree 1039 2020 (issued on October 7), the School Board Elections, scheduled for Sunday, November 1 have been suspended indefinitely.
As a result, the following changes take effect immediately:
• The election process is suspended immediately, as per provincial decree 1039 2020;
• Commissioner candidates who were declared acclaimed will be declared elected on November 6, 2020;
• The Chair-elect will be declared elected on November 6, 2020;
• Ward 8 will continue to be represented by the current commissioner, Mr Chris Schaler, until such time that the government issues a decree allowing for an election to be held;
• Ward 5 will continue to be represented by the current commissioner, Ms Laurie Garbutt, until such time that the government issues a decree allowing for an election to be held;
• The existing Council of Commissioners continues to hold power until the new Commissioners take office on November 6, 2020;
• The new Council of Commissioners will be sworn into office on November 10, 2020.
